AFSA Alumni To Appear Before Congress Tomorrow
This will be Rep. Greg Murphy's 4th Annual Campus Free Speech Roundtable
The Alumni Free Speech Alliance (AFSA) will be well represented at tomorrow’s 4th Campus Free Speech Roundtable on Capitol Hill, an annual event hosted by Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., a Republican representing North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District.
ASFA’s link to 4 participants is an impressive measure of the momentum and visibility the movement has gained in just 3 years. AFSA’s grassroots network has now grown to nearly 30 chapters, stretching from coast to coast. Our active and engaged alumni are proving to be a potent force for constructive change at the schools where associations exist. And more groups are on the way.
The Roundtable takes place tomorrow, Dec. 11, from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM ET in the House Veterans' Affairs Committee Room (360 Cannon House Office Building).
It can be watched via Livestream by following this link.
U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), who chairs the Committee on Education and Workforce, and Congressman Burgess Owens, a Republican who serves Utah’s 4th District, also will be in attendance.
The event brings stakeholders together annually to discuss challenges to free speech on campus. Other groups participating include Young America's Foundation (YAF), Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA), and Speech First.
AFSA affiliates scheduled to speak and take questions are:
AFSA Chairman and Jefferson Council Board of Advisors Member Tom Neale
Princetonians for Free Speech Co-Founder & Executive Committee Member Edward Yingling
Davidsonians for Freedom of Thought and Discourse Chairman John Craig
Davidsonians for Freedom of Thought and Discourse Executive Director Kenny Xu
Among the topics to be discussed:
The status of free speech at American colleges and universities
Rampant antisemitism following Oct. 7th, 2023
Legislative outlook for the 119th Congress
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives on campuses and in medical schools
Outside efforts to promote free speech and highlight First Amendment abuse

Please join us in person or watch it live tomorrow.
