Berenson Headlines UNC AFSA "Twitter Wars" Event
The writer brought suit after being deplatformed by the Biden White House
Author, blogger, and former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson recently visited the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill to discuss his battle to combat government censorship of social media content by the Biden Administration. The event was hosted by the University of North Carolina Alumni Free Speech Alliance, or UNC AFSA, which was kind enough to capture it on tape for those who couldn’t attend.
As some may recall, Biden Administration officials pressured the company formerly known as “Twitter” to suspend Berenson’s account on the pretext that he was spreading “misinformation” during the COVID-19 crisis. “Twitter,” now “X,” is today under new management, after being purchased by some obscure fellow named Elon Musk. And Musk seems much more pro-free speech than the previous owners, to say the least. But the larger question of how far government officials can go to control, “manage,” and censor social media content has huge First Amendment ramifications, as Berenson and his lawyer, UNC Law Grad James Lawrence, explained.
Congrats, UNC AFSA, on hosting another great event. And thanks for posting it on YouTube. You can watch the “Twitter Wars” event by following this link.
